Inside info and Bespin
Friday, February 20, 2009 16:22I grabbed a VPS from VPSVille.ca this week. Found out that they have a data center in LA now! I don’t that is supose to be totaly public info, but it’s an option when selecting server location. Also I e-mailed support because it was taking them a while to set up, and they told me it was brand new and they where still working out some of the kinks.
The bad thing? Instead of $30 CAD its $30 USD, about $6 more USD. They don’t have the US page up yet so keep that in mind. Super fast so far though, so I guess I can justify the price – and if you can get more IP’s for free, then all the better. Just keep it in mind if you sign up there.
Meanwhile I have learned a ton of stuff about setting up a server that I never have done before so it’s been a great learning experience.

Also this week I stumbled on Mozillas Bespin. Looks like this could be THE code editor to end all code editors. It’s really in its infancy though. Open source + community = prosperity, inovation, and customization. Pretty pumped.

Brad,
Very humbled by your comment on Bespin. We do realize though that this is just a tech preview, and we have a long way to go until it can be all that it can be. Being Mozilla, we wanted to get the project out in the open as soon as possible, and are already amazed at the work that people are doing on it. Go open source!
Cheers,
Dion, Bespin team

VPSville looks solid, they’ll be a nice addition to my server arsenal. Thanks!
I didn’t look too hard, but do they have any limitations at all with their IP address policy? Do they just allocate different D blocks or do they offer a much more diverse array of IPs?

Just, wanted to mention that VPSville also has a data center in London for us Europeans.

@errect:
They seem pretty cool with the ip’s. I had e-mailed them before I ever signed up, they said it was no problem to get other class c ips for SEO purposes.

Hi Brad,
Probably going to sign up to VPSVille for a vps soon but you never offered an aff link to click through? Guess that’s a positive thing in you referring them but i’m sure people will be happy using your link if its a good service. Why not throw one up if they have a program?
You mention that there was lots of stuff you learnt about setting up a vps. I guess this is what has held me back in the past not know what is involved. Perhaps you can elaborate post on what is required to set up as an AM.
Cheers dude.
Ajay.

@Ajay, that’s a great idea and I may do a set up your own VPS big pimping tutorial. In fact, I’ll probably start on it right away.
As for a referral, they don’t have a typically referral system (where I can just run you through a link). You just have to mention who referred you. Mention Brad Bertsche in the referral box and / or send them a message and mentioned I referred you.
I’d appreciate it.
