Adcenter does have a slap *smack*

I have been meaning to write this post for a while, and as I don’t have that many new things to write about here we go.

If you ever used Adcenter you’d know shit seems pretty lax over there, which is great for us affiliates.  I hate having to do extra work like cloaking for Facebook and the such.   However one point your not too likely to run into is the infamous “Adcenter Slap”, and yes I did just coin that term.

The difficult part is, well getting it.  It came out of the blue.  Had a good campaign running for several weeks, all of a sudden my impressions went to zero.  Out of no where, no good reason.  After 2 days of trying to set up new campaigns and the such I just couldn’t get it to come back.  So I e-mailed support and asked why my ads had stopped running:

Hello Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft adCenter Support, my name is Nolan.

I understand that you would like to know why the ad groups located in your [removed] campaign have stopped performing. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and I will be happy to assist you.

I took some time to review your account and your landing page and something immediately caught my eye that I would like you to work on before I take any further action on this case. When I close down your website I am presented with several pop ups prompting me to stay on the page.

Our editorial policies do not allow the use of pop ups on landing pages at any time, and this potentially could be one of the causes in your loss of performance. Please remove all pop ups attached to this website at your earliest convenience.

Once you have removed the pop ups please let me know. I will monitor your account performance over a 48 hour period from that point. If you are still not performing as you had before I will be able to investigate this further. My hours of operation are Saturday – Wednesday, 6:00am – 2:30pm PST. I will be checking my inbox daily for your response.

Your reference number for this interaction is 1082078754.

Thank you for choosing adCenter, and I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Nolan

All because of exit pops.  Keep in mind I’m not sure if I was already flagged or if they really didn’t find out until I asked about it.   So after I changed the link to a different LP, and contacted them, my traffic started to slowly come back.  However for a while thereafter I was playing a game of cat and mouse, trying to get that LP up with the popups because it converted better.

It seemed like I was being watched or they had some sort of automated tool that smacked me here and there when I tried to bring back the old LP.  I eventually got it back though or so it seems.

Be aware.

funny, this happend last week to me!

Though it happend a little bit different since I first got a call from AdCenter Support telling me they had discovered one LP having exit popups.
I changed LP before losing impressions.
